Ivano-Frankivsk Old Town Hall

Ivano-Frankivsk is one of the top Ukrainian cities due to comfortable living conditions, good ecology and great cultural environment. It has International Airport, railway and coach stations. Ivano-Frankivsk is the gateway city to Carpathian mountains. There are many hotels, museums, restaurants and cafes in this beautiful West Ukrainian city.

This year it has celebrated its 350th birthday. The city of Ivano-Frankivsk had an old name Stanislaviv and was built in 1661 as a fortress, and the town inside of it was projected according to the ideas of Renaissance “Ideal City”. Plans for the fortress applied certain principles of the French military engineering school. This fact reflects the leading role played in the construction of the town by Colonel François (Francisco) Corassini from Avignon, who subjected the pattern of the city to a modular network. Some of fortress bastions, next to Cathedral, has been renewed this year and is open to visitors.

The Old Town Hall is the only in Ukraine which has a golden roof and is located exactly in the centre of the city.

In 1662 the city was granted Magdeburg rights.

In 1962 it received a new name after famous Ukrainian poet, writer, philosopher, politician and scholar Ivan Franko.
